Description

A fun April Fool's snack or appetizer even a meat-lover will enjoy.

Ingredients

Scale

16 fresh baby carrots

¼ cup low sodium soy sauce

2 tablespoons real maple syrup

1 teaspoon liquid smoke

1 (8 oz.) can refrigerated crescent roll dough

1 (11 oz) bottle Hellmann’s Spicy Dipping Sauce

Instructions

  1. Blanch carrots in boiling water for 3 to 4 minutes or until just crisp tender. I like them to have a little snap or bite to them. Drain carrots and place in a zippered plastic bag or utility dish.
  2. In a 1 cup measure, whisk soy sauce, maple syrup and liquid smoke until blended. Pour marinade over carrots turning them to get fully coated. Let carrots marinate at room temperature for at least 1 hour or for as long as overnight in the refrigerator.
  3. Heat oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Unroll crescent dough onto a cutting surface; separate into triangles. Using a pizza wheel or sharp knife, cut each triangle lengthwise into two triangles.
  5. Drain carrots and blot on paper towels. Place 1 carrot on the wide end of each dough triangle. Roll toward the point wrapping the dough around the carrot. Place on baking sheet about 1 inch apart.
  6. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until crescent dough is golden brown. Transfer to serving plate. Serve with Spicy Dipping Sauce.
