Celebrate your favorite veteran with a memorial flag, medals and a sparkling cocktail.

Celebrate your favorite veteran with a refreshing prosecco cocktail! I crafted this sparkling drink, inspired by my favorite U.S. Navy sailor, with Poire William, a delightful pear-flavored brandy. It perfectly complements fresh ginger and patriotic (red, white and blue) fruit. Just top it with some bubbly and say "cheers!" It's incredibly refreshing!

I truly love Prosecco and choose it over Champagne every time; after all, I am Italian. Do you enjoy an Aperol Spritz? That's also a Prosecco cocktail!

Prosecco vs Champagne

While both are sparkling wines, Prosecco and Champagne have many differences:

  • Origin: Producers make Prosecco in northeastern Italy, while Champagne must come from France's Champagne region.
  • Grapes: Prosecco primarily uses the Glera grape. Champagne utilizes a variety of grapes, including Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, and Pinot Noir.
  • Production Method: Winemakers ferment Prosecco in tanks. In contrast, Champagne undergoes a longer aging process directly in the bottle.
  • Flavor Profile: Prosecco offers light, fruity notes of pear, apple, and honeysuckle. Champagne has finer bubbles and complex, nutty, toasty flavors. You'll often find Champagne labeled "Brut," indicating a drier, lower sugar content.

How to make a Prosecco Cocktail

Preparing this super simple drink couldn't be easier, and it all starts with a simple syrup. While typically made by dissolving equal parts sugar in water, this Prosecco cocktail highlights pear notes. I achieve this by dissolving sugar directly into pear liqueur and infusing fresh ginger flavor. Once the mixture cools, you use it as the drink's sweetener. Just add 1 ½ tablespoons to a chilled fluted glass, then top with chilled Prosecco. Stir gently to disperse the sweetness without disturbing the bubbles. Add some fresh raspberries, blueberries and peeled pear for a red, white and blue celebration.

Pro tip for keeping drinks cold

Skip the ice which can dilute the drink. Instead try these tips:

  • freeze the fruit garnishes
  • chill the serving glasses
