A rare photo of William doing something artsy with best buddy Brian at cub scout camp

Luckily, (for me) he was required to take at least 2 art classes in high school. As a freshman football player he chose “dance for athletes” and ceramics.

His ceramic pieces are so precious and give great insight into who he was. I am grateful to his teacher who allowed such expression in these beautiful tiles. Hunting, camp fires, the woods….he lived these scenes.

On the hunt

Morning, noon and night. Winter, spring, summer and fall. The boy was creative and artistic and I suppose always longing to be in the woods rather than in school.

Wish I had understood that better back then and I wish I wasn’t telling this story now.

The tiles are remarkable, they seem to be the work of someone much older (old soul?). What a treasure.

He was definitely artistically talented, but his connection to nature, flora and fauna, that is life, probably enabled him to do well in and have insight in all that he applied himself to do, for it came from a very deep well of heart and love…

I could have used your teaching expertise when he was in high school, Min. When he loved a subject he went full throttle and did it to the best of his ability, but if he didn’t like the subject—oh boy did we butt heads.

I absolutely love the tiles. I want to see them next time we are together. It took my breath away to see the picture of him with Brian. Thank you God for filling their lives with so many smiles.

I’ve been reading, but lacked the energy to comment for a while. As I sit here making wings and dip for the game, I looked at these tiles and just cried. It has been a long and difficult holiday season this year…Much more emotionally draining than our first Christmas without Aidan.
I think of my Aidan and Will and how such creative, talented and vital boys left pieces of themselves without ever knowing how much they would be treasured later.

I know there is nothing I can say or do to ease your pain. I am glad this holiday is behind you now. It will never ever make sense, but to say I am better off to have had him for 23 years along with this pain than to have never had him at all

Of course those tiles were of camping and hunting and outdoors. So “William”. Loved seeing them, a treasure for sure. (Especially the “boy dancing around the campfire”, that one’s my favorite 🙂

I don’t know if school still requires classes like art and music…hope it hasn’t gone the way of home economics. We all benefit when we explore different sides of ourselves

    Such beautiful art..
Just recently I found this..perhaps you’ve seen it:
    “Grief never ends…but it changes.
It’s a passage, not a place to stay.
Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith…
It is the price of love.”

Wishing you a new year filled with hope, peace & strength.
